SHS Student In Court For Murder

A Wenchi Magistrate Court, presided over by Vivian Yamusa, yesterday remanded 17-year-old Borwelayire Ragan Daniel Kwasi, who has been accused of murder, into police custody to reappear on February 26, 2018 on grounds of ill health.

Daniel Kwasi, a third-year Senior High School (SHS) student, was provisionally charged with murder after investigations revealed that he strangulated his niece, four-year-old Fuseina Abubakar on December 8, 2017 at Wenchi Boadan in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The prosecutor, Detective Inspector Victor Samadai told the court that on December 8, 2017, the mother left her daughter Fuseina Abubakar, who was sleeping in a room together with Ragan to go and lit a lantern in a nearby house.

However, she found the girl dead upon her return.

Kwasi was immediately arrested by neighbours but he pretended to be unconscious and was rushed to the hospital where a doctor declared him fit.

He was sent to the police station and charged with murder.

According to the prosecutor, a pathologist report indicated Fauseina died through strangulation.

When the judge asked Kwasi whether he smokes Indian hemp, popularly called Wee, the accused person responded in the affirmative, to the surprise of everybody in the court.

The judge adjourned the case to February 26, 2018.
