SIGA Committed To Guiding State Enterprises

Ambassador Edward Boateng

Acting Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Ambassador Edward Boateng, has assured the public that the oversight body will work assiduously to ensure that state enterprises reach their potential and contribute their quota to national development.

Ambassador Boateng made the statement at the swearing in of a nine-member board of SIGA at a short ceremony held in Accra last Monday.

According to him, the President has appointed the right and capable human resource to manage the institutions so with a little guidance, there will be a complete turnaround.

“I think most of the state enterprises have the right management so I think what we need to do is to sit down with them and agree what can be achieved and work towards that. Some of the institutions also need help, so SIGA will assess how best we can help them through our guidance to ensure they reach their potential,” Ambassador Boateng told the press.

On his part, the Minister for Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe called on the board to guide state enterprises to maximum profitability and bring an end to an era of losses.

He reiterated that the priority of the board is to ensure that state owned enterprises perform well to contribute to the country’s growth and development, a goal he said is very dear to the President’s heart.

He urged the board to use their knowledge, skill and experience to ensure maximum efficiency.

“It is my charge to you to use your knowledge, skill and experience to achieve the ownership management objective of these state enterprises through good corporate governance and high-performance management because these are the essence of SIGA’s existence. I look forward to effective board performance to give direction to SIGA,” he said.

The nine-member board is chaired by Mr. Terrence Darko, with other members including Ms. Yasmin Baba, Mr. Franklin Asafo-Adjaye, Mr. Felix Ntrakwah, Mr. Kow Essuman, Dr. Margaret Atuahene, Mr. Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia, Mr. David Collision and Ambassador Edward Boateng, Acting Director-General of SIGA.

Board Chair, Mr. Terrence Darko said he is confident the board and management of SIGA will work together to achieve positive results.

“I am confident that we will achieve even better results going forward,” he said.

He charged the management of SIGA to do its bit to ensure that the institutions it oversees employ the best practices to ensure productivity and economic growth.
