Soldier Gold ‘Robbers’ Caged

THREE SUSPECTED gold robbers, including two alleged military officers, have been arrested and caged by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command.

The nabbed suspects were said to be part of a five-man robbery team, who stormed Apantubom in the Bosome Freho District in the Ashanti Region at Saturday dawn for robbery operation.

In a Rambo style, the hoodlums, who were said to be heavily armed, reportedly robbed a popular gold dealer in the town of his GH¢100,000 and other valuables.

According to reports, the hoodlums also kidnapped their victim, name unknown, and he was only set free by the police, after they had apprehended the suspects.

The Assemblyman of Yaapesah Electoral Area, Lot Adu-Asabre, commenting about the case, said the victim was attacked by five men, four of whom were in military uniform.

According to him, the victim said the five suspects just drove to his house at an ungodly hour and introduced themselves as military men and demanded GH¢400,000 from him.

He said the victim told the suspects that he didn’t have the colossal amount they were demanding from him, and this infuriated the suspects to forcibly break into his room.

Within few minutes, he narrated, the hoodlums ransacked the room and made away with GH¢100,000 and other valuables belonging to the victim, and bolted with their booty and the victim.

Adu-Asabre said he heard about the robbery operation and also informed the police, who quickly mounted a barrier on the road to prevent the suspects from escaping from the farming community.

The police, he said, eventually stopped the car of the suspects and upon interrogation they introduced themselves as military men.

According to the assemblyman, the police then told the suspects to follow them to the police station for further questioning, but they drove away to escape arrest.

He said the police then gave the victims a wild chase, amid the shooting of warning shots, adding, that the robbers, sensing danger, abandoned their car and fled on foot through the bush.

Later on, he said some of the townsfolk managed to arrest three of the suspects, including two alleged military men for questioning, adding that the robbery victim has also been set free.
