Some happy officers dancing to carol music
OFFICERS AND PERSONNEL at the Naval Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces have been urged to sacrifice more in the discharge of their duties towards national development.
Speaking at the Ghana Navy Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service held on Wednesday night at the Navy @ 50 Accommodation Complex in Burma Camp, former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Air Marshal Michael Samson-Oje, urged the military men to reflect on their contributions towards nation building as they reflect on the true meaning of Christmas which is sacrifice.
“It is a season for us to learn to sacrifice for our country, our various communities and in particular the less privileged in society.
“I will implore you to reflect on your contributions towards nation building. As military personnel, your role in national development is one of sacrifice – a true reflection of the life of Christ”, he said.
He further entreated them to unite in their work towards the security of the nation.
“Let us have all hands on deck and put our shoulders to the wheel so that we can overcome all the storms that confront our dear nation. Let us use this occasion to forgive one another and renew our commitment to serve God in humility”, he added.
In a brief sermon, Director of Religious Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces, Naval Captain Adjei-Djan, reminded the military men that they are but clay and that Christmas in this dispensation is not to mark the birth of Christ but rather to remind and prepare themselves for His second coming.
He therefore encouraged them to be conscious of their lives and the times in which they lived and seek the good of others adding that they should uphold the integrity of the nation and ensure that they are truthful in all their dealings.
“Yours is to help protect the integrity of our dear country. Let us not make our lives too difficult. Let us be wise and be content with what we have”, he admonished.
He added that: “Let us have renewed minds as we prepare to go into the New Year and work hard to protect the natural resources of the country.”
The Ghana Navy Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols Service was organized by the Naval Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces in collaboration with the Eastern Naval Command and the Naval Wives Association.
The ceremony brought together several melody-making groups from both the military and civilian settings and was well attended by a host of military officers and personnel with some members of their families.
