Speaker Directs Submission Of Leaked IGP Tape Report to President

Alban S.K. Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, has instructed the Clerk of Parliament to deliver a copy of the adhoc committee’s report on the leaked tape regarding a purported plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP) from office to the President for further review and potential action.

This decision came on the back of Parliament’s endorsement of the committee’s report, despite the absence of Chairman Samuel Atta Akyea’s signature. The report implicated three senior police officers – COP Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Lysander Asare, and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – in misconduct, deemed a severe violation of police regulations that warrants disciplinary measures as per the police disciplinary procedure.

Upon the formal adoption of the report by the House, Speaker Bagbin took the initiative to instruct the Clerk to Parliament to furnish a copy to President, who also chairs the Police Council, for any requisite follow-up actions.

In his announcement, Mr. Bagbin emphasized, “The report is accordingly adopted. I can only direct that the clerk to parliament should make available a copy of this report, which has just been adopted by the house to his excellency, the president, as chairman of the police council for any further action, it deems necessary.”
