Caleb Afaglo
The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has dismissed its interdicted Information Technology (IT) manager, Caleb Afaglo, with immediate effect.
A statement issued shortly after a SSNIT Board meeting, asserted unequivocally that Caleb Afaglo fraudulently acquired his job by providing fake degrees.
“That Dr. Caleb Afaglo, the General Manager, MIS of the Trust, be relieved of his position with immediate effect. He is currently on interdiction. Evidence made available to the Trust indicates that the University degrees presented by Dr. Afaglo to secure his employment at the Trust are fake,” the statement, issued last night, pointed out.
“The Trust will collaborate with the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to ensure that those suspected of breaches of the law in respect of the OBS Contract are dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.
“SSNIT expects the names of people associated with the IT (OBS) contracts to be released in the near future.
“The Board and Management of SSNIT want to state that they will publish the findings of the Pricewaterhouse Coopers as promised at their recent press conference,” the statement, signed by Victoria Abaidoo, acting head, Corporate Affairs, added.
The Board has promised to take steps to clean the Trust and restore its credibility.
EOCO Raid
Meanwhile, the offices of the IT company embroiled in the scandalous $72 million SSNIT software contract – Perfect Business Systems (PBS) – have reportedly been raided by EOCO.
The raid at the La premises of Perfect Business Systems, DAILY GUIDE gathered, took place in the early hours of Tuesday.
Unconfirmed reports also suggested that a similar raid took place at the residence of the PBS’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Juliet Kramah.
Ms. Kramah, whose company offered one of the highest tenders for the contract, is said to be close to the Mahamas – the former first family – and it is believed that links with them partly accounted for her earning the juicy contract which is seen as a complete rip-off of pensioners.
Perfect Business System and Silverlake Consortium were awarded the controversial SSNIT software contract at $34 million.
The company reportedly got the job, even though other firms, including Persol Systems – a local company – presented tenders to execute the project at a much cheaper cost of $4 million.
Some officials of the past board of SSNIT headed by Prof. Joshua Alabi – a National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2020 presidential hopeful – are under investigation by EOCO over the controversial deal, which was uncovered by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
DAILY GUIDE understands that Prof. Alabi was invited to EOCO on Tuesday, August 29, at exactly 10 am for questioning over the deal.
EOCO is also investigating Afaglo, who claims to be a doctorate degree holder.
In defence, he claims that the university he attended had folded up, and therefore he couldn’t be blamed for that.
