THE Municipal Electoral Area League of Suhum (MEALS) in the Eastern Region has kicked off in style.
The annual league sponsored by the Member of Parliament for Suhum, Fredrick Opare Ansah, started with 32 teams.
So far, eight of them have reached the final stage and are poised to battle for the giant trophy donated by Multi-choice Ghana this Sunday at Suhum Roman Catholic Park.
Opare Ansah said sporting talent abound in Suhum hence, his decision to provide a platform for the talents to be showcased.
According to him, the initiative aims at bringing out the best in the locality, adding that, ”I am using this gala to help unearth talents for our national teams as well as other clubs and I call on club owners and football administrators to visit Suhum this weekend and take a look at the talents that will be on display.’’
He appealed to corporate Ghana for support and urged football scouts to patronize the finals to unearth talents for their respective teams and clubs.
He stated that, “I am determined to provide such platforms for the youth to exhibit their talents so these skills can be harnessed for further development.’’
Meanwhile, Kwadwo Baah Agyeman, Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and CEO of Sports-life Consult, commended the Suhum MP for the initiative.
This year’s final features eight teams namely; Yiadom Stars, New Roman Stars, Road Side FC, Star Rangers, Appointed FC, Ayekotse Zongo Stars, Brong Densu Stars and Edaho Soccer Missionaries.
The winning team is expected to receive cash prizes and medals worth GH¢25, 000.
