The Appointments Committee of Parliament is inviting written memoranda from the general public on the newly nominated Justices of the Supreme Court who have been penciled to be vetted by the Committee from August 20 to August 23, 2018.
A communication from the clerk of the committee stated that public memoranda should reach the clerk of Parliament on Tuesday, August 14, for consideration.
The four nominated Justices are Justice Samuel K. Marful-Sau and Justice Agnes M.A. Dordzie who have been elevated from the Appeal Court to the Supreme Court as well as Prof Nii Ashie Kotey, the former Dean of Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana and Nene A.O. Amegatcher, former President of the Ghana Bar Association and a private legal practitioner.
Prof Nii Ashie Kotey is expected to face the Appointments Committee on Monday, August 20, followed by Justice Agnes Mercy Abia Dzordzie and Nene Abayateye Ofoe Amegatcher who will both be vetted on Wednesday, August 22, while the last nominee, Justice Samuel Kofi Marfo-Sau, will be vetted on Thursday, August 23.
Their appointments were made by the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo, on July 3, 2018, after which the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, announced the nominations in Parliament and accordingly referred the four nominees to the Appointments Committee for vetting.
The four nominations will add up to the current 12 Justices of the Supreme Court.
The current Supreme Court Judges are the Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo, Justice William Atuguba, Justice Julius Ansah, Justice Sophia Adjeibea Adinyira, Justice Jones Mawulom Dotse and Justice Anin Yeboah.
The rest are Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, Justice Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe, Justice Vida Akoto-Bamfo, Justice Alfred Anthony Benin, Justice Yaw Appau and Justice Gabriel Pwamang.
