The body of the deceased
A man has been found dead on a 33,000-volt high tension pylon at Aboabo in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
The man, identified only as Fatau, was said to be part of a group of cable thieves that have been stealing power cables in the area lately.
The deceased was found hanging on the high tension pylon in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Residents believe Fatau and his cohorts had attempted to steal the power cables from the pylon, but he was electrocuted in the process.
They said the other cable thieves, who were with Fatau, their ringleader, took to their heels to avert arrest.
Eyewitnesses told the paper that they heard noise around 2am from the high tension pylon which interrupt power supply to the area suddenly.
They said they quickly moved the scene to find out what was amiss.
The residents said they were shocked to see Fatau, who was then alive, hanging precariously on the pylon.
According to them, Fatau, who looked jittery, appealed to them to climb the 33,000-volt high tension pylon to rescue him.
Some minutes later, they said the wire on the pylon made some noise again which resulted in his death.
The residents said the theft of cables has become commonplace at Aboabo and the nearby areas in recent times.
The death of Fatau was reported to the officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the police, who conveyed the dead body to the morgue.
Some women at the scene wept uncontrollably when Fatau’s body was removed from the pylon on Tuesday morning.
