The scene at the shore after the news broke
Reports reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that suspected pirates on Wednesday night attacked some Ghanaian fishermen at Senya Bereku in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
According to information gathered, the perceived pirates fired several warning shots before taking away seven outboard motors belonging to the fishermen.
Unconfirmed reports had it that about 50 fishermen were taken hostage by the attackers.
The incident occurred when the alleged pirates who were armed and reportedly using a navy-coloured boat, stormed the fishing grounds.
It was gathered that they fired warning shots to scare the fishermen before making away with the seven outboard motors used by different canoes.

According to sources, the attackers operated swiftly in detaching the motors and fleeing the scene in a waiting boat painted in navy colours.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West, Kalala Nyamekye Eghan, confirmed the incident and assured the victims of the assembly’s support.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizzella Tetteh-Agbotui has revealed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed the Marine Police to the area to protect fishermen and prevent further attacks.
