In a significant development, the Ghana Professional Tailors and Dressmakers Association has thrown its weight behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The association’s endorsement, announced at its annual conference in Wenchi, Bono Region, is seen as a major coup for the NPP, which has been touting its achievements in the vocational training sector.
According to Kofi Poku, National President of the Association, the decision to back Bawumia was made after a thorough assessment of the NPP’s track record and policies, which have positively impacted the tailoring and dressmaking industry.
Poku highlighted specific initiatives by the NPP government, including the professionalization of the sector through legal and regulatory reforms, and the implementation of Free TVET, which has created an enabling environment for growth and development within the sector.
The endorsement was welcomed by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s Vice Presidential Candidate, who emphasized the party’s commitment to advancing technical and vocational training.
