Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta Road Progressing

Some workers busily working on the road

Work on the dualisation of the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta road in the Western Region is progressing steadily.

The initiative is part of the massive road projects currently ongoing in the region to help ease traffic congestion, particularly, in Sekondi-Takoradi and give the area a facelift.

The 23-kilometre stretch is being executed by Justmoh Construction Limited with the implementing agency being the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA).

The road project is part of the National Highway one (N1) project in Ghana that begins at the border with Ivory Coast at Elubo and runs through Sekondi-Takoradi, Cape Coast to the Greater Accra region.

John Essah Amissah, Takoradi Area Manager of the GHA, Western Region, disclosed that the project started in March 2024 and it is expected to be completed in three years.

He noted that the project include the rehabilitation of sections of the road and reconstructing of drainage structures.

He added that the dual section starts from Apremdo near Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipality of the region.

He said, aside the additional lane to be constructed, the contractor would also build two concrete bridges at Apremdo and Awusiejo to replace the obsolete steel ones that would be demolished.

He indicated that when completed, the project will also help in the easy transportation of minerals including manganese and bauxite, from the mining areas to the Takoradi Port for export.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Justmoh Construction Limited, Dr. Justice Amoh indicated that when completed, congestion on the stretch would be a thing of the past and cut down travel time.

“This project is so dear to the region and the country as a whole”, he indicated.

He said even though the area has been experiencing lots of rainfall, the contractor has been working daily and sometimes deep in the night to ensure the project is completed as scheduled.

“We are on course to improving the road network in the Western Region. I know the motorists would have loved that the project is completed as quickly as possible,” he said.

“However, I will encourage them to be patient but corporate and follow the various diversion signs placed at some sections of the road,” he added.
