The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared 12 aspirants to contest in the party’s parliamentary primaries scheduled for September 6, 2025, in Tamale, in the Northern Region.

The aspirants are Lawyer Abdul Hanan Abdul Rahman Gundadoo – Former Mayor, Tamale Metropolitan Assembly; Seidu Mohammed (Fiter) – Lecturer, University for Development Studies (UDS); Mariama Naama Salifu – Princess Yelzoli of Zabzugu & Diplomat; Dr. Rahman Abdul Rashid; Dr. Aliu Abdul Hamid – Civil Engineer; Prof. Razak Abubakari – Lecturer, Tamale Technical University; Alhaji Alhassan Nbalba – Former Chairman, NDC-UK/Ireland Chapter; Prof. Alidu Seidu – Lecturer, Political Science Department, University of Ghana; Hajia Muliaka Sualisu; Lawyer Sadat Harun Alhassan; Alhassan Osman Gomda – Entrepreneur, and Hajia Shamima Yakubu, NDC Northern Regional Treasurer.

The vetting, led by Lawyer Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, commended all aspirants for their conduct and urged them to remain united.

She assured them that the parliamentary primaries would be free and fair, emphasising the party’s commitment to an unbiased election process.

“We will ensure that the election is free and fair. We recognise that this is a competitive election, and we will do everything we can as a party to ensure it goes on smoothly,” she stated.

However, the NDC Deputy General Secretary cautioned aspirants and their supporters to conduct clean campaigns, free from insults and disrespect towards opponents.

“We have urged all aspirants and their supporters to run their campaigns decently because we do not want anything to tarnish the image of the party. If any aspirant is unable to control their supporters during the campaign, that aspirant may be disqualified from the election,” she added.

The 12 aspirants have committed to conducting clean campaigns to ensure the party remains united even after the elections.

The Tamale Central Constituency seat became vacant following the tragic death of the former Member of Parliament, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who was one of the victims of the August 6, 2025 Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash near Adansi Brofoyedru in the Ashanti Region.
