Alexander Kuranchie
Father of one of the four Takoradi kidnapped girls—who were recently confirmed dead through DNA result—has said the call for the resignation of the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, is totally misplaced and unwarranted.
According to Alexander Kuranchie — father of Priscilla Mantebea Kuranchie—the public is not aware of the behind-the-scenes role the CID boss and her team played in trying to secure freedom for the girls. He, therefore, said those calling for her resignation were being misinformed.
“This woman has been a source of encouragement to some of us in these trying times and sometimes I am surprised at the way some people are trying to crucify her,” he told DAILY GUIDE in an exclusive interview on Friday.
He said the CID boss and her team did everything possible to unravel the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping case.
“It is true what has happened to us is very painful. But I think it’s unfair for people to ask Maame Tiwaa to go,” he stated.
Last Wednesday, when the families of three of the girls and some residents embarked on a demonstration in Takoradi, the Kuranchie family did not take part, and when DAILY GUIDE sought to know the reason for their non-participation, he said the CID boss, in his humble opinion, did what she could to get the girls back, and once the DNA report has confirmed the human remains discovered were those of the missing girls, including his daughter, the agitations must cease.
“I still maintain that calls for the resignation of Madam Addo-Danquah lack merit. She did all that she could to help get the girls and we should let her work in peace,” he insisted.
“It is not my duty to call on the President to sack the CID boss. Also, we all know how difficult it is to cater for your children without employment and so I will never call for the dismissal of Maame Tiwaa,” Mr. Kurachie indicated.
I Respect The President
Mr. Kuranchie confirmed that President Akufo-Addo interacted with him on phone the day the acting IGP was announcing the DNA results.
“I was grateful he (President) called me and I could not have disrespected the President even though I am mourning. I received his call and he consoled me,” he said.
Mr. Kuranchie said the President told him that “the police have informed me that the DNA tests had proven that the human remains were that of our daughters who were missing and had confirmed to me that they are dead.”
“The President told me I will hear from him later and I thanked him for the call,” he disclosed.
Mr. Kuranchie is the father of Priscilla Mantebea Kuranchie, the 15-year-old first-year student of Sekondi College who was kidnapped on December 21, 2018 at a spot near Nkroful Junction, near Takoradi.
