The people of Techiman Municipality celebrated the annual Farmers’ Day at Techiman Tanoso in the Brong Ahafo Region with the theme: “Agriculture: Moving Ghana Forward”.

Speaking at the occasion to mark the 34th National Farmers’ Day celebration, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Eric Hudson Asumani, congratulated the gallant farmers on what they had been able to do for the year and urged them on. He stressed that agriculture is a very viable venture and as such the youth should get involved and stop travelling to the big cities in search of none-existing jobs.

He said because of climate change, characterized by floods, drought, bushfire and outbreak of strange pests and other diseases, the farmers must change their old method and adopt the scientific way of farming to get more yields. He appealed to the farmers that his office is for them so they can come there for help. According to the director, there are enough vegetable seeds and fertilizers to support farmers and that farmers should liaise with the Agric Extension Officers for modalities and advice.

In his address, John Donyina, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), disclosed that the vision of the Akufo-Addo government is to respond to the cry of the  youth for jobs and that was why immediately he held the reins of power,   he introduced the “Planting for Food and Jobs” to help our youth to get work.

He said agriculture is the backbone of Ghana’s economy and therefore all must get themselves involved.

He stated that what Nana Addo Dankwa is doing now clearly shows that he is building a solid and concrete foundation for the country. He admonished our clergy and all religious leaders to campaign for Planting for Food Jobs programme so that more people would get involved when the rains start coming next year.

He also used the occasion on behalf of the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to congratulate all the 12 award winners and urged them not to rest on their oars. The overall best farmer: Mr. Oduro Kwabena (56) from Tanoso received one Motor King and other items. One award winner was a lady and another was a physically challenged person.
