One of the founders and leader of the Osibisa Group, Teddy Osei, has advised young Ghanaian musicians to be creative enough to draw attention to their work so as to increase their earnings.

Speaking at a seminar dubbed ‘Going Global With Your Music: The Osibisa Experience’, held at the University of Education, Winneba and the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the leader of the Osibisa Group charged musicians to develop their musical career to enable them to compete with those on the international music scene.

He also suggested that musicians in the country need to educate themselves in order to become counted among professional musicians in the near future.

Teddy Osei stated that education gave him more information on what he needed to do as a practising musician to meet the challenges ahead. He pointed out that when musicians are well educated, they can communicate and understand one another better, adding that a good educational background would give them the opportunity to understand various contracts they sign with event organisers and their executive producers.

He stressed that one of the main ingredients for the success of Osibisa is their dedication to creativity and innovation, reiterating that with their strong cultural background, it was relatively easier for them to fuse music with the various influences they had been exposed to.

On his part, Bessa Simons advised the musicians to remain committed to their culture while exploring global influences to be able to create music that has a universal appeal.
