Tema West Islamic Schools Compete In Qu’ran Recital

Islamic schools in Tema West have engaged in a Qu’ran recital competition organised by The Foundation of Tema West Islamic Schools.

The maiden edition of the Qur’an recital competition titled ‘Mosabacha’ was held at the Baatsona Central Mosque in Accra.

It was to among other things test the knowledge of participants about the holy Qur’an.

Six students each from four Islamic schools in the Tema West district namely; Baatsona Islamic, Anluru Islamic, Lashibi Ibhadrahman Islamic and Asalam Islamic Schools competed with each other providing two participants each for the three different categories.

After hours of Qur’an recitals, three participants; Suale, Hannatu Bashiru and Mohammed Bashiru came top and received prices such as the Holy Qur’an, kettle and a cash price of up to GH¢500.

Proprietor of Baatsona Islamic School Chief Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakari who played an instrumental role in organising the competition said he was inspired to start the Qu’ran recital competition to enhance the student’s knowledge about the Holy Book.

He also noted that the competition was common in other districts hence his decision to introduce it also in Tema West.

He said, “Every district organizes the competition, so stakeholders sat and concluded that we must start ours in 2023 and we formed the Foundation for Tema West Islamic Schools in order for us to be able to compete in the regional and national level,” he said.

Chief Alhaji Ibrahim expressed the hope that the competition would grow adding that prices for participants would be enhanced in next year’s competition.

“I am sure next year, if we are not able to give anything at all we will make sure those who come out first in the various categories will be given scholarships to pursue their education in the Senior High School,” he said.

Participants who came out first in their various categories also expressed excitement for the awards they received.

They promised to learn more in other for them to be able to maintain their position or do better in the next edition.
