Tems Unseats Tyla As African Artist with Highest Monthly Spotify Listeners

Tems

Nigerian singer, Tems has overtaken South African star Tyla to become the African artist with the highest monthly listeners on Spotify.

Tems, born Temilade Openiyi, recently reached 38.3 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform, edging past Tyla, who currently has 38.2 million listeners.

The surge in numbers follows a string of new releases and collaborations, including What You Need (Colour version), Bounce Road Blues with J. Cole and Future, as well as her joint track Raindance with Dave, which continues to gain traction.

Industry watchers say Tems is now on track to challenge the record for the highest monthly listeners by an African artiste — a milestone previously set by Tyla at 40 million listeners.

In addition to her latest achievement, Tems remains the most-streamed female African artiste on Spotify, boasting over 4.7 billion streams across all credits.

The latest milestone further cements her status as one of Africa’s leading global music exports.
