Tipper Truck Falls On Pregnant Woman

The truck being towed away

A tipper truck loaded with sand from Techiman towards Sunyani tilted and fell on a pregnant woman who was selling by the roadside at Chiraa in the Sunyani West District; killing her and her foetus instantly.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the tipper truck tried to dodge a tricycle which had crossed its way, and in the process fell on the pregnant woman and gashed out her foetus. Three others, including five-year-old boy Richard Mohammed, Akosua Denkyiwaa and another whose name is not immediately, known died in the process. Others also got injured and have since been hospitalised at the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital at Sunyani.

The accident threw the whole Chiraa community into pandemonium as community members rushed to the roadside to catch a glimpse of what had happened. The incident blocked the Techiman Sunyani highway; making it difficult for vehicular movement on the dual carriage way.

The tipper truck with registration number GW 3951-14 was being driven by one Issiful Tahiru with two other occupants believed to be his mates, Ali Fatawu and Benjamin Yiadom.

They have since been detained and are helping the police in their investigations. According to eyewitnesses, when the truck driver tried to dodge the tricycle, it broke into a number of houses before finally falling on the pregnant woman and killing her instantly.

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Kinsley Oppong, told DAILY GUIDE that preliminary investigations showed the vehicle had developed a fault on its way to Sunyani.

It took personnel from the Brong-Ahafo Regional Fire Service several hours to pull the truck from the road in order to give way to traffic flow.
