A trader has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly snatching a Hyundai Elantra taxi cab from one Fredrick Adjei.
The accused person, Abdul Rahim Gibril, who was said to have hired the services of the driver, reportedly snatched the vehicle worth GH¢13,000 from Fredrick at gunpoint.
Besides the car, the accused person allegedly robbed the driver of his Samsung mobile phone worth GH¢100 and GH¢100 cash.
The accused person, who appeared before the court, presided over by Emmanuel Lodoh, denied the charge of robbery and was remanded into police custody until July 27, 2016.
This was after the court had dismissed his plea for bail.
The prosecutor DSP Patience Mario said Fredrick is a taxi driver resident at Kasoa while Gibril is a resident of Abelemkpe in Accra.
She said on November 24, 2012 at about 2:30 am, Gibril hired the services of Fredrick, who was driving the said vehicle with registration GW 7023-12 from Kokomlemle to McCarthy Hill.
The prosecutor said on reaching a spot near Wiljil Guset House, Gibril pulled a gun on the driver and collected the car and his other properties.
She disclosed that the complainant reported the case to the police, but efforts by the police to arrest the accused proved futile.
Luckily Fredrick on July 6, 2016 saw Gibril at Mamobi in Accra and raised an alarm which led to his arrest.
