Trader Granted GH¢80k Bail For Rape, Robbery

AN ACCRA Circuit Court ‘Two’ presided over by Mrs. Rosemond Baah Torsu, has granted bail to a 45-year-old trader who is accused of rape and robbery.

Callistus Ugochukwu Okafo, alias Johnson Attah, was granted bail to the tune of GH¢80,000 with two sureties after he denied the charges levelled against him.

The case was adjourned to May 16, 2022 for hearing.

Prosecuting, Inspector Jonas Laweh said the accused and the victim met on a dating site called “Meet 24” somewhere in March 2022.

He said the accused who lives in Mamprobi Kamara, arranged to meet the lady on March 16, 2022.

“The two agreed to meet at a spot near Korle-Bu Total Filling Station at 9:15pm but the accused got there around 10:15pm,” the prosecutor said.

He said the accused person took the victim to an unknown place and at knife point robbed her of her Infinix mobile phone after which he raped her. Inspector Laweh said the following day, the victim was in a vehicle from Dansoman Agege to Nkrumah Circle when she spotted the accused person at Mamprobi Lotto House Bus Stop.

“The victim got down and demanded for her mobile phone, and this led to a struggle between the two, and with the help of a friend, a witness in the case and others, the accused was arrested and sent to Mamprobi Police Station where a complaint was lodged,” the prosecutor disclosed.

He said the victim was issued with a medical report for examination.

According to the prosecutor, “the case is still under investigation.”
