A 28-year-old man accused of stealing a tricycle belonging to his employer has been granted GH¢60,000 bail by an Accra Circuit Court.
The court, presided over by Evelyn Asamoah, granted the accused bail with three sureties, one to be justified.
Chief Inspector B. Bennieh told the court that the complainant, Abigail Sackey is a proprietress at Chorkor whilst the accused person, Gerald Yovo is a trader.
“Accused lives at Beach Road, a suburb of Dansoman. The complainant owns a pure water factory which is situated at Chorkor. The factory started its operation a few months ago and needed someone to supply the water with a tricycle,” Inspector Bennieh explained.
He said a witness in this case, Timothy Wayne, recommended the accused to the complainant, who in March 2022, bought a brand new Luojia tricycle valued at GH¢14,000.00 with registration number M-22-GR 8353, for him to work with.
He said the accused was asked to park the tricycle at the factory after work but he ignored the directives.
The prosecutor said on Friday, April 1, 2022, the accused took the tricycle home without the consent of the complainant and failed to turn up for work. The tricycle could also not be found.
“Several calls were placed to the accused’s phone but he failed to answer. Complainant became worried and informed the witness, and on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at about 9:30pm, the witness led complainant to the accused hideout at Agege, a suburb of Dansoman, where the accused informed the complainant that the tricycle was missing.
Chief Inspector Bennieh maintained that the accused was arrested and brought to the police station where a case was lodged against him.
He revealed that the accused, in his caution statement to the police, alleged that on Sunday, April 3, 2022, he woke up and detected that the tricycle had been stolen.
“The accused person said he did not inform the complainant even though he saw her calls, and added that he reported the missing tricycle to Shiabu Police but investigation revealed that there was no case reported at the said police station as alleged,” he said.
The case has been adjourned to May 25, 2022 for hearing.
