THE PRO Vice Chancellor of University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Prof. Emmanuel Opuni Frimpong, has said the recent interventions by the government are enhancing teaching and learning in schools.
Prof. Frimpong, who was launching the 60th anniversary celebration of Sunyani Senior High School under the theme: “60 Years of Quality Education: Sustaining Education for all to Ensure Economic Transformation,” said the bar for second cycle education had been set high. He commended the government for promoting teaching and learning.
He said some senior high schools in the country were taking advantage of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to make students better.
“Some schools now use LCD projectors, smart boards and slides to enhance effective delivery in the classroom. This makes it easy for teachers to collaborate and share ideas and resources online by communicating with other subject teachers across the globe in real time, refine their notes and provide students with the best,” he added.
The Headmaster for Sunyani Senior High School, Michael Nsiah Agyapong, said all academic institutions should not lower the standard of discipline in order to attain academic excellence.
He disclosed that the school scored impressive marks in the 2019 WASSCE examination, saying “out of 817 students presented, 791 had 8 ‘A’s.”
The Chairman for the occasion, Adjei Heni, praised the founding fathers and past headmasters of the school whose foresight has led to the current high academic standards of the school.
He said products of the school were contributing their quota to national development and implored the students to work hard and justify the huge investment being made in the Free SHS programme by the Akufo-Addo government.
