Unemployed Jailed For Defiling Girl, 8

A 22-year-old unemployed young man, who pleaded guilty to defiling an eight-year-old girl at Atomic Down Accra, has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court.

Prince Aboagye was hauled before the court on one count of defiling a child under the age of 16.

He lured the victim into his room on August 8, 2018 in the absence of her mother and the elder sister and sexually assaulted her on a table in his room.

The victim narrated her ordeal to her mother and the matter was reported to the police which led to the arrest of the convict.

Prince Aboagye pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.

The convict pleaded with the court to forgive him due to his age.

The presiding judge took into consideration his age and the fact that he was a first-time offender and his guilty plea.

The court accordingly sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment in hard labour.

The prosecution, led by ASP Agnes Boafo, told the court that on August 8, 2018, at about 7:30pm, the complainant saw the victim and her elder sister in the company of the convict in front of his room.

She said the complainant called the victim’s elder sister and sent her on an errand.

The convict later invited the victim into his room where he sexually assaulted her on a table.

ASP Agnes Boafo told the court that “after the act the convict heard the complainant looking for the victim, and they stepped out of his room. The victim later narrated her ordeal to the complainant.”

She said a complaint was lodged with the Madina Police Division of DOVVSU and a medical form was given to the complainant to take the victim to hospital for examination and treatment.

ASP Boafo added that the convict was later arrested by the police.
