Unilever Records GH¢141m Profit In 2023

Unilever Ghana PLC reported a revenue increase, reaching GH¢908 million in 2023, a 44% surge compared to the previous year’s GH¢632 million.

The company also achieved a profit of GH¢141 million, showcasing an improvement over the previous year’s profit of GH¢15 million.

The profit growth was attributed to the positive performance and the substantial 44% turnover increase driven by price adjustments, enhanced innovations, and strategic investments in brand equity.

Thus, Unilever Ghana will be distributing a dividend of 40p per share for the first time since 2019, with a total dividend payout of GH¢25 million for the 2023 fiscal year.

The dividend distribution is scheduled for June 24, 2024, for shareholders registered in the register of names of members as of May 22, 2024.

The Managing Director of Unilever Ghana PLC, Chris Wulff-Caesar, shared these financial highlights during the company’s 50th Annual General Meeting held in Accra.

He stated, “The Group exited the year with a positive cash and cash equivalents position of GH¢109 million cash compared with the deficit of GH¢59 million in 2022.”

Mr. Wulff-Caesar mentioned that Unilever Ghana PLC actively participated in sustainability initiatives by joining the Ghana Recycling Initiative for Private Enterprises (GRIPE).

The initiative undertook  various waste collection efforts including the Laboma Beach cleaning exercise and a beach clean-up campaign at the Tema MPS Port beach in collaboration with GRIPE, the Coastal Conservancy Organization, and Zoomlion.

Additionally, the company planted 200 trees to commemorate World Environment Day alongside the Tema Municipal Authority (TMA) and the Twedase Basic School, among other impactful initiatives.

Finance Director at Unilever Ghana PLC, Shweta Dwivedi, elaborated on the company’s financial achievements, highlighting its ability to navigate tax impacts on operations even amid the challenging business environment experienced in 2023.
