The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), in partnership with Union Savings and Loans and Claron Health International, has offered assistance to inmates of the Drug and Alcohol Free Awareness and Rehabilitation Centre (DAFAREC).
The initiative was as a result of the rise in drug abuse among the youth.
It also formed part of activities marking the week-long celebration of the International day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of drugs.
Union Savings and Loans donated an amount of GH¢5,000 to cater for the centre’s rent bills and other basic needs such as food items, clothing and assorted items.
The inmates will also be taken through health screening by medical personnel from the Claron Medical Centre, a subsidiary of Claron Health International to ensure that the inmates are healthy in order to aid their rehabilitation process.
Corporate Affairs Manager, Union Savings and Loans, Yaa Fosuah Gyamfi, pointed out that “Union is always ready to promote sustainable initiatives that drive social change, improve people’s lives and solve pressing social needs.
“Every year, we use this opportunity to partner other stakeholders and institutions whose objectives generally fall in line with our CSR objectives to create positive impact in society.”
She added that “this gesture is in line with our corporate social responsibility programme dubbed, ‘Growing Communities; ensuring that people are healthy, educated and protected; markets and businesses have the capacity to succeed and the sanitation conditions in business communities addressed.
“We hope our gesture will go a long way to assist them in their recovery process with the expectation that these inmates graduate and reunite with their families and contribute meaningfully to their various communities after completing the rehabilitation programme.”
