The Upper West Regional Football Association (RFA) has officially launched its U-15 Girls Regional Colts League in a colourful ceremony that brought together school representatives, club officials and coaches from across the region.
The initiative marks a major stride in the development of girls’ football in the Upper West Region, as authorities seek to provide structured competition and long-term growth opportunities for young female players.
In his address at the launch, Upper West RFA Chairman, Sadugu Yahaya, disclosed that the programme is funded by FIFA and channelled through the Ghana Football Association to the various Regional Football Associations.
He urged participating schools and clubs to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm to ensure the region maximises the benefits of the initiative.
He stressed that the league’s success will depend heavily on the collective effort and dedication of all stakeholders involved.
Chairperson of the Women’s Football Desk at the RFA, Saweiba Mohammed, also called on schools to treat the competition as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing emerging talents.
According to her, many young girls possess immense potential but lack the structured opportunities needed to refine their skills and build confidence.
She emphasised that beyond competition, the league should serve as a foundation for grooming disciplined, technically sound and competitive female footballers.
The U-15 Girls Regional Colts League is designed to provide regular competitive football while instilling values such as teamwork, discipline and technical development from an early age.
The launch not only signals the beginning of a new competition but also reflects a renewed commitment to empowering girls and advancing women’s football in the Upper West Region.
The league is scheduled to kick off this weekend at various centres across the region.
