Kohwe and Ursula Owusu
Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has promised to continuously support veteran actor Kofi Laing, known popularly as Kohwe, as long he is alive.
She disclosed this on Monday, a day after she paid a surprise visit to the home of the actor.
The visit was part of her efforts to meet sick persons in the Ablekuma West Constituency, where she is seeking to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.
She shared a photo of herself and Kohwe on Facebook on Monday and said she had a hearty engagement with him, and the veteran actor indicated how he hasn’t regretted choosing acting career.
“Yesterday, I visited veteran Ghanaian actor Mr. Kofi Laing, popularly known as Kohwe, as part of my visit to the sick.
Kohwe, who lives in the Ablekuma West Constituency, tells me of his joy to have entertained Ghanaians back in the days and holds no regret quitting his job at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in 1965 to do comedy,” she wrote.
“I had a hearty conversation with the one- time vibrant man. I assured him to hold on to life and be hopeful as some of us will continue to support and allow God to do his part,” she added.
Kohwe is one of Ghana’s most popular veteran actors praised for bringing joy into Ghanaian homes via acting. But not much is seen of him in recent times, partly because of the ailing movie industry and reluctance on the part of directors and producers to hire aged actors.
He was earlier in the news for saying for Ghanaians should show him love while he is alive.
Ursula has, therefore, been commended by many well-meaning Ghanaians for the gesture shown to Kohwe at this stage of his life.
