Ursula Owusu Slams NDC Over Free SHS

The Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has launched a scathing attack on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their stance on the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

Addressing a mini rally in the Achiase Constituency in the Eastern Region over the weekend, Owusu-Ekuful accused the NDC of hypocrisy and deception regarding the flagship education program.

“The NDC initially opposed the Free SHS policy, claiming it was unsustainable and would collapse the education system,” she said. “However, now they’re trying to take credit for it, claiming they would have implemented it if they were in power.”

She reminded the crowd of the NDC’s past record in education, highlighting their introduction of utility bill payments by students in public institutions and universities during former President John Mahama’s tenure.

She emphasized that the NPP government has consistently demonstrated its commitment to education, citing the Free SHS policy as a testament to this.

The Minister also touched on the improvements in road infrastructure, telecommunication network accessibility, and healthcare facilities within the constituency, assuring the crowd of continued efforts towards complete coverage.

Owusu-Ekuful’s comments come as the NDC has faced criticism for their alleged U-turn on the Free SHS policy, with many accusing them of trying to deceive voters ahead of the elections.

The rally, hosted by the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Achiase, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, and Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, featured other notable speakers, including Alexander Akwasi Acquah, MP for Akim Oda and Deputy Minister for Health.
