The US Vice Presidential Debate has resulted in fights between Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris.
Madam Harris who is the Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s running mate for the November 3, 2020 elections, debated Mr. Pence at Salt Lake City last night.
But during the live debate, both candidates did not shy away from heated exchanges.
Kamala Harris openly accused the President Donald Trump’s administration of “the greatest failure of any presidential administration” in human history.
In response, VP Pence says the Democrats’ pandemic plan amounted to “plagiarism.”
In the 90-minute debate which took place at the University of Utah, Madam Harris further accused Mr. Trump and VP Pence of collectively misleading Americans concerning the lethality of the novel coronavirus.
According to her, “they knew, and they covered it up.”
Due to that, she stated that they (Pence, Trump) have “forfeited their right to re-election.”
On his part, Vice President Pence accused Mr. Biden and his campaign team of copying the White House’s coronavirus strategy.
He alluded to a mistake that ended Mr. Biden’s 1987 run for the presidency when he plagiarized a speech by then British Labour leader, Neil Kinnock.
During the debate, Pence and Harris were separated by a plexiglass. They were both seated 12ft (3.6m) apart.
The increase in the seating distance from 7ft to 12ft and the mounting of a plexiglass became necessary following the mishandling of the coronavirus situation at the White House. Several White House staffers, and even President Trump and his wife Melania have tested positive for coronavirus.
Coronavirus has killed over 210,000 Americans.
During the debate, Kamala Harris was asked if she would take an approved coronavirus vaccine distributed ahead of this year’s election.
She retorted that she not take any vaccine pushed through by President Trump without the approval of medical experts.
But VP Pence lashed her, saying: “The fact that you continue to undermine public confidence in a vaccine if the vaccine emerges during the Trump administration I think is unconscionable.”
