Ghanaian actress Jacqueline Owusu Sarpong has said she is not happy that sex has taken a greater part of the celebration of Valentine’s Day while other aspects of love remain relegated.
According to her, it is an open secret that most Ghanaians engage in sexual intercourse on Val’s Days and reports often suggest that most pharmacy shops run out of condoms.
The actress said Ghanaians should rethink about the essence of Valentine Day because it was not just about sex.
She explained that Valentine’s Day is an annual festival to celebrate romantic love, friendship and admiration, adding that every year on 14 February people celebrate this day by sending messages of love and affection to partners, family and friends.
She said Valentine Day is day set aside to remind us of the importance of love.
“A lot of people narrow it down to just romantic love which is cool but I think it should be broadened to reflect how deep and important it is to receive and give love to as many people as you can possibly reach,” she added.
Millions of lovers around the world will be celebrating Val’s Day tomorrow February 14.
According to her, in Ghana, there are a number of planned events to celebrate the day which include National Chocolate Day celebration among others.
The actress encouraged to use of chocolate as a ‘gift of love’ to all during the Valentine Day celebration.
She hinted that the national chocolate day celebration which would commence on February 10 and end on February 14 ? is on the theme: ‘My Chocolate Experience: My Holistic Well-Being’.
She revealed that the National Chocolate Day was instated in 2005 to coincide with Valentine’s Day, February 14 to promote the consumption of made-in-Ghana chocolate and cocoa-based products.
