Velma Owusu-Bempah
Top milliner Velma Owusu-Bempah beat several others to win the most outstanding woman of the year at the 2019 Ghana Outstanding Women Awards (GOWA).
She had three nominations for the awards ceremony in categories like outstanding woman of the year, outstanding woman entrepreneur and shero of the year.
But she went home with the outstanding woman award after Friday’s ceremony, which was held at the National Theatre in Accra.
Velma beat the likes of other hardworking women like Afia Amankwaa Tamakloe, Sally Akua Amoakowaa Mensah, Melissa Adarkwah and Tracy Boakye to win the outstanding woman of the year award.
“Thanks to everyone who took their time to vote for me. I’m more than blessed to have you in my life and the support and love you have shown to me. I can see all the love. I love you right back. God bless you,” she said after picking the award.
The GOWA is aimed at honouring Ghanaian women who have impacted the growth of the country in areas such as showbiz, politics, health, education, entrepreneurship, among others.
A number of celebrated women were honoured at the ceremony. Among them were Akumaa Mama Zimbi, Linda Ampah, Rachel Appoh, Edem Fierre and Joana Gyan, who all received honorary awards.
