Vodafone Ghana Limited has presented a cheque for GH¢10,000 to the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA) towards its upcoming awards ceremony.
The presentation is to support the telecom award category, which recognizes the best journalist in the telecoms industry over the period for the awards.
Other corporate organizations, including Wilmar, producers of Frytol; International Cocoa Initiative; Voltic and Ghana Chambers of Commerce also presented various amounts of money and items for the celebration of journalists’ work.
Voltic presented GH¢10,000 with 75 cases of bottled water to the GJA, the Ghana Chamber of Commerce also gave GH¢8,000 and Wilmar handed over a cheque for GH¢12,000 to support the programme.
The corporate communications manager of Vodafone, Ebenezer Amankwah, appreciated the great work journalists are doing in the development of the country, especially for corporate institutions to thrive.
He said the media are seen as “essential stakeholders in the advancement of our progress as a telecommunication company. We view the media as an integral part of the way we are visible externally.”
According to Mr. Amankwah, Vodafone holds the media in high esteem and does not hesitate to support GJA in awarding dedicated journalists and media houses for their various roles in the development of Ghana.
Commenting on the kind gestures of the corporate organizations, Mr. Affail Monney, GJA President, said as a body, the association seeks to honour journalists who deliver at the peak of events and to motivate them to go the extra mile.
He said, “The job of the journalist is very difficult, with endless working hours and are always expected to deliver; the majority are doing well and they need to be motivated, but we cannot do it all by our own strength.
“We are thankful for your support because the best profession deserves the best push and support.”
