Volta Gets GH¢36m For ‘One District, One Factory’

Dr. Archibald Letsa

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, has announced that an amount of GH¢2 million had been allocated to each of the 18 districts in the region for the implementation of the government’s ‘One District, One Factory (1D1F)’ flagship policy.

He added that 18 projects had also been selected for each of the districts and that they would commence this year.

Dr. Letsa disclosed this during a breakfast meeting on the 2018 budget in Ho. The meeting was under the theme, “The 2018 budget, opportunities for businesses in the Volta Region.” It was organized by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Eastern and Volta, and supported by the Volta Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists’ Association.

The event, which brought together persons from various sectors of the economy in the region, discussed pertinent aspects of the budget and highlighted opportunities for the region regarding the development of local industries.

Dr. Letsa also mentioned that an amount of $20 million had been earmarked by local financial institutions as a stimulus package for transforming dormant industries into more viable entities across the country.

Apart from this, government had earlier introduced policies to revive distressed but viable industries in the country by reducing corporate taxes by 20 percent. More so, President Akufo-Addo had announced 14 percent reduction in utility tariffs to encourage private businesses to function well.

The regional minister said the ‘Planting for food and jobs’ and other policies aimed at revamping the economy, are high on his agenda. To this end, he claimed he had started two cashew plantations at Kadjebi and Kpassa in the northern part of the Volta Region, and encouraged others to venture into agriculture.

He disclosed that attention would be given to some major projects in the region, including the construction of the Ho by-pass and completion of the dualization of the Ho main roads which was started by the previous government.

He assured the people that with his entrepreneurial background and government’s commitment to supporting businesses, he would do everything in his power to make enterprises flourish.
