The Volta Regional chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), with support from the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Eastern/Volta Chapter, has launched an awards scheme for journalists working in the region.
The scheme, which was launched recently, is to motivate journalists in the region to contribute towards the development of the region and also promote businesses and other attractions of the region.
The launch was done by the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, who lauded the initiative, describing it as a novelty.
He therefore called on journalists to promote government’s transformation agenda, adding that the Akufo-Addo administration was ready to support the media to execute his ambitious projects aimed at industrialising the country.
Dr Letsa also expressed gratitude for the media’s support over the years to the region, particularly when local assemblies were preparing for the numerous initiatives being rolled out by government.
Under the awards, which is being organised in partnership with the AGI, which is also title sponsors, journalists in the areas of agriculture, education, health, business & economics, tourism, disaster management and prevention, sports and sanitation will be recognized.
The AGI-GJA Award ceremony, which is on the theme, “Promoting the industrialisation of Volta Region: The role of the Media,” will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Sky Plus Hotel in Ho.
Interested journalists in the region are expected to submit their work not later than November 10, 2017.
Their articles should have been published between January 1, 2016 and October 31, 2017.
The entries should be addressed to the Chairman, AGI-GJA Volta Journalists Awards Committee in Ho.
Lucy Tenkorang, Vice President, Eastern/Volta AGI, observed that journalism without recognition was demoralising and pledged the AGI’s support to ensuring the highest standards of the profession.
Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, the Regional Chairman of the GJA, said the media in the region were committed to supporting the region’s rapid industrialisation.
The occasion was also used to unveil the vetting committee of the awards.
The members include Kofi Akordor, Ralph Avornyo, Sepenyo Dzokoto and Yvonne Odame Nti.
