The West African AIDS Foundation (WAAF) and International Health Care Centre (IHCC), two organisations under the same ownership, have been recognised for their patriotism in healthcare delivery in Ghana.
Presented by the Osei Kusi Foundation (a local NGO), the award was in appreciation of the immense public health service being conducted by WAAF and IHCC in the area of HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, hepatitis and other infectious diseases treatment at minimal or no cost.
The CEO and Medical Director of WAAF & IHCC, Dr Naa Ashiley Vanderpuye Donton, who received the award, stated that the organisations have been at the forefront of health education and screening through its free community and school outreach programmes for the past 20 years.
“Educating the public through awareness campaigns coupled with one-on- one knowledge sharing has proven to be the best tool for fighting stigma and fear,” she said.
Through partnership with like-minded organisations, WAAF and IHCC have over 1,200 people living with HIV as clients and have conducted numerous health outreaches free of charge in different parts of Ghana.
