Washing Bay Attendant Dies In Manhole

 

A WASHING bay attendant, who is believed to be 50 years old, has accidentally fallen into a deep manhole, sadly ending his life in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti Region.

Kwame Bayie, now deceased, according to reports from the Airport Police, fell into the deep hole around 9pm on May 24, 2025 at a washing bay near the Kumasi Airport roundabout.

One Aggrey Dawson of Manhyia Sub. Metro Fire Station Kumasi, together with Fireman Abubakar Sadat and Fireman Owusu Bruce, were quickly informed about the disaster.

The trio rushed to the scene and together with other people, managed to remove the lifeless body from the hole, which was filled with water, and reported the case to the police.

“On receipt of the report, police in the company of the complainant, proceeded to the scene and found the body of the deceased lying in a supine position and was identified as Kwame Bayie, a worker at the said washing bay.

“Deceased was seen wearing a black T’ shirt and a pair of blue/black jeans short. A careful inspection on the body revealed a cut on the left knee,” a police statement disclosed.

The police said the body was photographed at the scene after which it was taken and deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary Kumasi, Tafo, for preservation, awaiting autopsy.

The owner of the washing bay, according to the police, has since been “invited to assist police to locate the relatives of the deceased for identification and necessary action,” adding that investigations are ongoing.
