The constituency secretary, Abdul Yahaya, addressing the press conference
The executive members of the Weija-Gbawe constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have accused the former constituency chairman of the party, Samuel Ofori Ampomah, of undermining the peace and development of the constituency.
The constituency executive members also said Mr Ampomah’s team, which contested the recent constituency elections and lost miserably to the team led by Mr Michael Danquah, has also vowed to torpedo the endorsement of the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, by the Ga South Municipal Assembly.
The constituency secretary of Weija-Gbawe, Abdul-Fatawu Yahaya, who made this known at a press conference by the executive on Monday, said the Mr Ampomah had succeeded in influencing five out of the 11 assembly members who had voted two times against the MCE nominee. It was seriously affecting the development of the municipality until serious consultations were made for the assembly members to eventually confirm the MCE on Wednesday, 29 August, securing eight ‘yes’ votes as against three ‘no’ votes.
He said: “It is a known fact that some of the assembly members who voted against the president’s nominee are members of Ofori’s team who contested the recent past constituency elections and lost miserably hence their decision to undermine the administration of Member of Parliament, Tina Naa Ayeleh Mensah”.
He said that Mr Ampomah’s hatred for Tina Mensah stems from the fact that he lost the parliamentary primary to her in 2015 and decided to campaign against her in the 2016 general elections by supporting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate.
According to the constituency secretary, in spite of all these, Tina Mensah has made every effort to unite the party and promote the development of the constituency.
“Even though the MP is helping her constituents with jobs in both the formal and informal sectors, the municipal assembly is still plagued with high unemployment, poor road networks, poor sanitation and security challenges, hence the urgent need to have the MCE to run the affairs of the municipality,” the constituency secretary said, asking all party members to support the endorsement of the new MCE to enable him push for the development of the municipality.
