The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, has revealed that the Yendi and Tamale water supply projects are being undertaken.
Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, made this known to the media at the Information Ministry on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.
According to her, in the northern region, the Tamale water supply and Yendi water supply projects are being undertaken.
She indicated that the Tamale water supply involves the construction of new water treatment system from the White Volta.
Tamale currently has a 30,000 cubic meters per day water supply system, we are moving it to 135,000 cubic meters per day to meet the water demand for the year 2040.
She said the estimated cost for the Tamale water supply system is $223 million.
She added that it is expected to benefit 792,000, noting that currently the development phase is completed.
With the Yendi Water Project, it involves the construction of a new water treatment plant and it will be the first one in Yendi.
She said the water source will be taken from the Oti River and the cost of the plant will be about $30 million and expected to serve a Population of 133,000.
Moving away from Yendi and Tamale, she said in the Savannah Region, the Damongo Water Supply Project which is estimated to cost $49 million is being undertaken.
