The Weija Divisional Police Command has apprehended two persons for blocking the entrance to the China Mall at Weija with rocks.
The suspects have been identified by the police as James Mensah, 42, Manager of West Hills Mall and Samuel Annum Adjei, 44, a contractor.
They are alleged to have committed the act to prevent customers from patronising China Mall, a mall they consider their competitor.
According to the police, the two took to their heels upon seeing the police, and when the police gave them a hot chase, they were arrested meters away.
The Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Juliana Obeng in a statement said their preliminary investigations suggest that the West Hills Mall is in competition with that of China Mall.
She said on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at about 2am, the police at Weija received a distress call from the security man at China Mall that some persons were there with a dumping truck, tipping off rocks at the entrance of the China Mall located behind the West Hills Mall.
“The Police immediately moved to the scene and at the scene, the Police observed that the entrance to the mall indeed had been blocked with rocks,” DSP Obeng disclosed.
DSP Obeng said the two suspects found at the scene immediately took to their heels upon seeing the police.
DSP Obeng stated that, “Suspects were given a hot chase, arrested and sent to the Command for questioning.
The two suspects have admitted to the offence and have been cautioned. All two suspects are presently in Police custody assisting with investigations.”
The rocks, she said, have been removed from the entrance of the China Mall to enable customers to access the place.
