About 558 delegates from 29 constituencies are expected to participate in the election of officers for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region today at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Tamale.
Fifty-one aspirants are vying for ten positions in the region.
The regional communication director, A. Latif, told DAILY GUIDE that two constituencies – Nalerigu/Gambaga and Yunyuo – will not be taking part in the elections.
He advised delegates and supporters of the party to abide by the regulations set by it (party).
The incumbent chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, who has stated that history will repeat itself as he will once again be declared winner to take control of the administration of the party in the region, will slug it out with Alhaji Abdallah Hindu, NADMO coordinator who describes himself as the Northern Mugabe. He has a wealth of experience in administration and mobilization.
Alhaji Adam Baantima Samba, a businessman; Alhaji Amandu Inusah (‘Dagomba Boy’), a strong grassroots man who is the immediate past Yendi constituency chairman and Alhaji Mugisu Sibawey are other contenders.
The Regional Secretary is being contested by Sule Salifu, Abukari Iddrisu, Natoma Awusi Mahama, Sule Sambian and Mohammed Yussif Alhassan
First Vice Chairman is being challenged by Iddrisu Sunday, Dr. Salifu Nantogma Alhassan, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana and Abdul Rahman Salisu Mahama.
The Second Vice Chairman position is heavily being contested by Hajia Amama Sayibu, Felicia Tettey, Yahaya Iddi Mutawakilu, Baba Kadiago, Hamdia Shahad Alhassan and Ibrahim Gariba
Six persons – Fredrick Tahiru, Atik Shiraz, Tamimu Fayal, Mohammed Alhassan Ghana, Adam Abdul Bashiru and A. Sham-una Gazi, each wants to become the Regional Youth Organizer
The Regional Women’s Organizer position is being vied for by Hajia Safia Mohammed, Issahaka Sahadatu, Hajia Ayishetu Mahama, Hajia Rahana Aziz, Suraiya Manan and Hajia Zulfawu Amadu.
The contest for the Regional Organizer position is among Rashid Salifu COP, former Youth Organizer, Peter Wuni Baaga, Alidu Musah and Bashiru Mohammed.
Alhaji Sibidow Alhassan Yakubu, is tipped to win the position of Treasurer which is being keenly contested by Peter Kwabena Dwomo Tuffour, Benjamin Mensah, Hussein Yussif, and Collins Kwesi Antwi.
Haruna Iddrisu, Alhaji Baba Alhassan, Abdallah Salifu, Alhassan Abdul Jalil and Kwayaja Ngamiba are contesting for the Assistant Regional Secretary position.
Adam Abdul Fatawu, aide to the Deputy Northern Regional Minister is being challenged by Sham-una Ilyasu, Mohammed Shukurulah Bamba, Sulemana Alidu and Abdul Rahman Meriga for the Nasara Coordinator slot.
