A domestic misunderstanding between a couple at Maamaso community of the Birim North District near New Abirem in the Eastern Region has resulted in the stabbing of a 29-year-old man identified as Kofi.
The victim’s wife, aged 21 and identified as Maafua, is reported to have attacked her husband, Kofi, during an argument over the choice of food she prepared for supper.
Providing details of the circumstances which led to the attack, Maafua, in a police statement, said the misunderstanding began when her husband gave her money to prepare banku and okro stew as the evening meal. She claimed that the money allocated for the said dish was insufficient and, therefore, decided to prepare banku and light soup.
According to Maafua, her husband, upon arrival from work, was not happy with the change in the meal and confronted her on why his request for supper had changed.
Maafua said she defended her actions, stating that the money he provided was insufficient to prepare okro stew, adding that she had saved a portion of the money for future use.
She claimed that during the altercation, her husband allegedly picked up a knife, which she managed to snatch from him, and allegedly used to stab him.
The brother of the victim, Francis, who was in the next room, rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion. He found his brother injured and conveyed him to the hospital for medical attention.
Maafua is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
