Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has announced that feeder roads had improved from 24 to 32 per cent while urban roads have improved from 19.6 per cent to 26 per cent from 2017 to 2022 in the region.
According to him, though a lot more needed to be done in improving the highways in the region, 1,959 kilometres of roads are currently under construction out of which 250 kilometres have been completed.
The minister, who doubles as the MP for Takoradi, was speaking during his turn at the Information Ministry’s ‘Meet the Press’ engagement during which he appealed to contractors who had been given contracts in the region to execute them or back out and desist from complaining about non-payment.
“You know you have the capacity that is why you were given the projects so you deal with your bankers because you know you are going to be paid after all. If you feel you cannot execute it just tell us so that government gives it to other entities,” the minister stated.
He also touched on the 78km railway line being constructed from Manso to Nsuta section of the Western railway line, which he said will be completed by 2023 apart from five other port infrastructural projects in the region.
