The late Late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu
Final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV of the Abudu Royal Family will commence today, 14th December, 2018 at Yendi in the Northern Region.
It will end on December 28, 2018, after which the Abudus will leave the Gbewa Palace peacefully.
Per the peace deal, the Abudus will be given access to the Gbewa Palace to perform the funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai, according to their customs and traditions.
The Andanis will then take their turn at the same place, the Gbewa Palace, to also observe the funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani from 4-18 January, 2019.
Few days ago, the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) led by the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed paid a visit to the Yendi Municipality to inspect progress of work at the Gbewa Palace ahead of the funerals.
As part of the preparations, portions of the Gbewa Palace in the Yendi Municipality were being reconstructed to make it a befitting place for the funeral of the two great Dagbon overlords.
Per the programme of activities for the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV, the Bolin Lana will be installed as regent of Dagbon today, 14th December, 2018.
On 15th December, 2018, there will be visitation by chiefs/regents, and sacrifices will be offered to the local deities amid musketry, drumming and dancing till 18th December, 2018.
On 19th December, 2018, there will be memorial lectures on the history of Dagbon, after which the drumming and dancing will continue to 21st December, 2018.
The youth will pay homage to the chiefs and regents amid firing of musketry, drumming and dancing again from 22nd -26th December, 2018.
The funeral will be climaxed with Logri Bob’bu and Muslim prayer by the Abudu Royal Family at Yendi.
Visitors have started trooping to the area to witness the funeral of the two overlords which has delayed for several years.
Meanwhile, hundreds of military and police personnel have been deployed to the Yendi municipality to beef up security in the area.
