Zinedine Zidane
Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane is reportedly ‘warming’ to the Manchester United job – and it could see him reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under immense pressure after suffering an embarrassing defeat by local rivals City earlier this month.
That 2-0 loss to Pep Guardiola’s side came just two weeks after Liverpool humiliated the Red Devils at Old Trafford, beating them 5-0 on their own turf.
As a result, Solskjaer’s position has been questioned and potential replacements have been considered.
Zidane has been touted by some as the leading candidate to take over from the Norwegian, should he be sacked in the coming weeks.
And according to Record Sport, Manchester United have now made progress in their attempt to lure Zidane to Old Trafford.
The 49-year-old has been out of job since May – after the end of his second stint as Real Madrid manager – and is now said to be keen to link up with Ronaldo and Varane again in England.
During his two spells in charge at Madrid, Zidane won three consecutive Champions League trophies, two LaLiga titles and two Club World Cups.
Zidane, who won the World Cup with France in 1998 as a player, has also been touted as a favourite to replace Didier Deschamps as manager of the national team whenever he steps down.
However, former England defender Rio Ferdinand believes Erik ten Hag’s success at Ajax indicates he could be the right fit to take over Old Trafford.
