Mr. KK Sam

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Anthony Kobina Kurentsir Sam has disclosed that the assembly is poised to embark on a programme to improve the beauty of the metropolis.

He mentioned that the Department of Parks and Garden would soon start greening the metropolis especially along the major roads with planting of selected ornamental flowers.

“Some unauthorized kiosks and containers along ceremonial roads which have already been marked will be demolished if the owners fail to remove them”, he added.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE the Sekondi-Takoradi Mayor noted that in a bid to drastically reduce crime in the metropolis, the assembly had provided street lights at the major streets and communities.

“The assembly is also embarking on an exercise to prune trees located along all the major roads to provide an aesthetic effect”, he indicated.

He revealed that the sanitation day exercises which were initially held on first Saturdays of every month in the metropolis, had been changed to the third Saturdays of every month.

“The change has become necessary due to the continuous request from stakeholders to allow celebrations of social events which are mostly scheduled during first week of every month”, he explained.

The MCE indicated that the assembly had already commenced the decongestion exercise to relocate unauthorized transport terminals from the Central Business District to the newly-built Apremdo Transport Terminal

“The exercise is ongoing and the success chalked so far is remarkable. I wish to use this opportunity to once again appeal to all affected transport operators to duly cooperate with the assembly to ensure sanity”, he stressed.

He revealed that this year, the assembly would witness significant change in its road sector and the commencement of works of a flyover interchange at the Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout –Tanokrom road through Kojokrom.

“I am happy to inform you that the assembly had been directed to tar all untarred roads in the metropolis this year”, he revealed.

Mr K.K Sam pointed out that a number of investors had expressed interest to invest at the various sectors of the local economy specifically in the areas of hospitality, agro-based industries and health among others.

“This comes on the heels of my recent working visits to Germany and Turkey to explore opportunities and woo investors to our dear metropolis. Let me appeal to local businesses to strategically position themselves to take full advantage that will be offered”, he added.
