Samira Dines With Widows

Hajia Samira Bawumia shaking hands with the widows

SECOND Lady Hajia Samira Bawumia extended love and care to widows in the Ashanti Region when she hosted them as special guests of honour at a dinner dance party in Kumasi over the weekend.

About 332 widows, including five from each of the 47 constituencies in the region, attended the event held at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council ahead of the yuletide.

It formed part of the second lady’s visit to the Garden City to thank women in the region for their support to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Akufo-Addo.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah and his deputy, Elizabeth Agyemang, as well as the Mayor of Kumasi, Osei Assibey Antwi and other municipal and district chief executives attended the dinner, which lasted over two hours.

They were joined by NPP faithful from the Zongo communities, including Hajia Zeinabu Sallow, the Ashanti Regional Manager of Micro-finance and Small Loan Centre (MASLOC).

The second lady, wearing a sparkling dress, was welcomed by the Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser of NPP, Nana Ama Ampomaa, as she arrived at the Denyame residence of the regional minister with her entourage.

Speaking at the party, Samira Bawumia said the NPP government had come to work for the vulnerable people like widows to have better lives, and that she would serve them.

“About two years ago you supported us with your prayers and votes for Nana Akufo-Addo to become President . . . We are here to thank you for your commitment. In this world, everyone needs one’s help. If I look at the support I received in the past, then it dawns on me to give back to society,” she remarked.

According to her, the dinner dance party and its accompanying Christmas hampers were her widow’s mite to bring warmth to the widows at this festive season.

She asserted that government, on its part, had put in place solid measures to support women empowerment, pointing out that the LEAP stipend had been increased.

“We think about you and that is why we are working for you. All we need is your prayers and support to the President and his government. Pray for his vision to come true,” she appealed.
