AT LEAST one person has been killed and eight others injured in a shooting incident at Asunafo near Kwabeng in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region, the police have said.
The incident, which occurred during a community clash between two factions over a mining activity in the town on Friday, led to people fleeing through the streets after rapid gunfire rang out.
Police responded to the gunfire and came across a large crowd, and nine persons with gunshot wounds, who were taken to the Enyirensi Government Hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Anderson Fosu-Ackaah, led a team of officers to the community and also visited the eight injured persons at the hospital where they are responding to treatment.
No suspect is yet in custody in the wake of the shootings, but the Eastern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the incident, with deployment of police patrol teams from the regional, divisional and district commands in and around Asunafo Council Area to maintain law and order.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has also called on the public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects who are currently at large.
