John Mahama
Two activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who were said to be part of the convoy of former President John Mahama, have died in a car accident at Ohia Atu, Goaso, in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Kwaku Duah, 35, and another person, whose identity is not known but believed to be in the 20s, died on the spot after the pickup on which they were travelling together with 13 others somersaulted several times.
They were on their way home after meeting the former president at Goaso when the accident happened. The other passengers sustained various degrees of injury.
Goaso Municipal Police Commander, ACP Ebenezer Larbi, who confirmed the accident to the media, said the pickup was overloaded with NDC supporters.
Former President Mahama expressed sadness upon hearing the news of the deaths of the NDC supporters.
He said: “It’s shocking to know that we lost two very enthusiastic supporters in an accident on Sunday night. They were young, vibrant and very helpful during the meeting. My prayers are with their families and friends in this very difficult time”.
The former president is expected to console the bereaved families, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.
Mr Mahama is currently on a tour of the Brong Ahafo Region to canvass for votes to lead the NDC again in the 2020 general elections.
He met students of Sunyani Technical University yesterday but the paper has no information about what transpired there since his handlers sent away journalists who covered his activities at the start of the tour because he (Mahama) claimed they were misrepresenting facts.
A taxi driver told DAILY GUIDE yesterday that he was not enthused about the message of the former president, saying “the man has no message because I heard him telling delegates at Odumase that he would introduce ‘One Secondary School, One Constituency’ policy if elected again as president.”
