23 Robbers Grabbed At Afram Plains

Weapons retrieved from the suspected armed robbers

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested 23 suspected highway robbers at Anyiresu, a community near the Afram Lake in the Afram Plains District.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday at 11:20 am by a joint team of Police and National Security operatives, who embarked on a special operation in the enclave.

The Police managed to retrieve two sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, 10 SB shotguns, four locally manufactured pistols, 15 live BB cartridges, two chainsaw machines, 10 empty BB cartridges and two boxes of restricted drugs from the suspects.

The suspects are Yakubu, 34, Sulley Issah, 34, Kwadwo Ekeham, 18, Agbemtu Francis, 47, Hilali Dari, 30, Dodzi Efiavor, 25, Mawutor Agbala, 28, Kofi Musah, 23, Mohammed Atuyie, 39.

The rest are Osman Sumana, 28, Bone Sylvester, 34, Richard Gamor, 28, Haruna Kodo, 23, Issah Joseph, 26, Mukalia Alhassan, 20, Lumor Apator, 29, Fatawu Adams, 28, Kwagise Tsotovor, 48, Efia Agbale, 48, Dodzi Akpatsu, 25, Sanka Abdul, 30 and Bertha Tetteh, 35.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE said, “They were arrested at their hideout at Anyiresu, a village along the banks of the Afram Lake and are suspected to be behind the recent robbery attacks within the Kwahu enclave.”

DSP Tetteh added that one of the suspects by name, Braima Salifu, 70, who exchanged gunshots with the security agents in the course of the operation, was shot in the right hand by the security agents.

“He was overpowered, arrested and rushed to Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie for treatment under guard. The suspects have been detained for screening and the exhibits found on them seized for further investigations,” the Police Spokesperson said.

Twenty other suspects were arrested in the same area by the Operation Team last week.
